I started racing Time Trials with RugbyRCC in 2016, using my mountain bike with clip-on aero bars and slick tyres. I bought my first road bike in June that year, a second hand Scott Addict after working up the money at the local Co-op.
In September I started studying Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Southampton, joining the cycling club but injuring my knee badly in a crash only two weeks after arriving. This kept me off the bike until December.
After a month of short indoor rides (due to not being able to put legwarmers on because of my knee) I started riding again in January, knowing that I wanted to enter my first 'proper' races that year.
I finished second in my first two races in May, taking me up to 3rd Cat in five days. I won my first race after attacking solo for 35 minutes in a local road race.
